“This match has generated unprecedented interest since Major League Soccer released our schedule less than three weeks ago,” said Sporting Kansas City President and CEO Jake Reid. “We believe this will be the biggest event in Kansas City this spring,” Reid added.
“The opportunity to host this match, which will be Lionel Messi’s first MLS match in the Midwest, is especially exciting as our region prepares to host Copa America matches this summer and FIFA World Cup matches in 2026″, the leader stressed.
GEHA Field features natural grass and is one of 11 U.S. stadiums selected for the 2026 World Cup. It will also host this year’s Copa America and will host the match between the home team and Uruguay on July 1.
